Scattering Fork Outdoor Center is open for low ropes and experiential educational training from May 1st until November 1st every year.  These are by appointment only and are available to all  groups. Contact us for more information.

Scattering Fork also holds several events during the year that are open to the public.

  • Owl Prowl: Come see “Hootie” our mascot and walk the trails to hear the owls. Test your owl calling skills. Second Saturday in January - 6pm..
  • Wild Flower Walks: See nature’s own floral show – unrehearsed and live. Third Monday in April - at 2pm and again at 5pm.
  • Wild Edibles Seminar: Find out what delectable treats can be made from wild sources. Third Saturday in May at 9 a.m.
  • Grandparent’s Day: Kids can bring their grandparents to this event, which is fun for young and old. Second Sunday in September at 4 p.m.
  • Halloween Happening: Haunted woods, corn maze, spooks, goblins  – Scattering Fork comes alive with all manner of spirits. Family fun for all ages. Last Sunday in October from 4pm to 8 pm.

What is SFOC?

Located just southeast of Mexico, Mo, in central Missouri, Scattering Fork Outdoor Center is a non-profit educational facility dedicated to providing personal growth through outdoor education. We specialize in building confidence, self-worth and teamwork. We increase communication and leadership skills while instilling an awareness of the environment and an appreciation for the great outdoors.

What We Offer:

  • Low Ropes Courses that build teamwork and confidence through mental and physical challenges.
  • Primitive Overnight Camping right on the site.
  • Native American Programs that center our authentic, life-size tipi.
  • Environmental Education activities as well as developed nature trails.
  • Special Events like the Owl Prowl, Wild in the Spring, Wild Flower Walks, Wild Edible Sessions, and Grandparent’s Day as well as Halloween Happening.
